The round skiff, the boat of the Martinique fishermen,
was created in the 1940s, by a Carpenter François who was inspired both by the gum tree (the boat carved into the tree which bore the same name) and the European skiff.
Promoted national sport somehow, it is now faced with almost professional athletes divided into teams 'sponsored' by communes or trademarks.

seduced by the highly scenic side of these events, the crew to constantly fight to keep the boat balanced.
Indeed, devoid of rudder, without a true keel, it is headed by the 'boss' who maneuver a paddle to the back.
He is assisted by two men tied up in ropes attached to the mast of the mainsail that advertise the gusts and the position of competitors. The balance of the boat is provided by the crew which stands on 'erect wood', long rigid wooden poles jammed inside the boat.
This monumental work by his strength, his power, his sobriety, pays tribute to risk-taking and the determination of the sailors at the time of the Navy sailing, their need to escape, opening to the world, their courage and their bravery.
The combination of several materials, glass, wood, steel, each treated with talent, is a perfect illustration of Régis’ know-how and creative imagination.
